The Phelps Organ
Offered for sale: 6-stop mechanical action organ.
This superior and distinctive quality organ, with a serious musical history, was designed and built by Lawrence Phelps & Associates, builder of the Hexham Abbey Organ. The Phelps Organ at Hexham Abbey was the first modern mechanical-action instrument built in the United States exported to Europe, reversing centuries-old cultural flow. It was part of the 1300th anniversary of the Abbey, an event in which Queen Elizabeth participated in during the September 1974 celebration.
This organ is the last organ voiced by Dr. Lawrence Phelps, husband of Dame Gillian Weir.
It is owned by Emilie Sinz and been in her home since it was built. Lawrence and Emilie Sinz were the financial backers of Lawrence Phelps & Associates. Lawrence Sinz died in 2003 and now his widow, Emilie is offering it for sale as her recital days are now done. She wishes it to be appreciated for the one of a kind work of art that she has enjoyed for much of her professional career.
